About Lauren
I'm Lauren Redding, a clinical social worker, feminist therapist, educator, and Doctor of Social Work candidate at Rutgers University School of Social Work.
My work is grounded in feminist therapy, trauma-informed care, and a commitment to understanding how our experiences are shaped by the systems of oppression we live in. As a therapist, I'm particularly interested in the ways power, gender, and social expectations influence how people understand themselves — and how therapy can create space to question the narratives we've been taught to accept.
Alongside my clinical practice, I teach in the Rutgers Master of Social Work program and am passionate about helping the next generation of clinicians think critically about the theories, assumptions, and frameworks that inform their work. I believe that how we understand our clients matters just as much as what we do in the therapy room.
The Feminist Therapist Compass grew out of that belief. I created it to help bridge the gap between feminist therapy theory and clinical practice, offering therapists a framework for seeing beyond symptoms and understanding the fuller stories of the people they serve.
My hope is that this project encourages therapists to stay curious, question what they've been taught, and approach their work with greater attention to power, context, and the complexity of human experience.
